I requested as stance from the court from a GAL and the Judge granted it to me due to my anxiety, I don't want them anymore

What is the process if I hire a lawyer to represent us and feel I don't need/want the GAL I requested from the judge for myself via letter from my therapist/ssdi to help me get one in a civil housing case against me? I know the lawyer will represent me so I feel the GAL is no longer needed and we are not getting along anyway. My therapist is aware of my problems with the GAL and wrote a letter asking to have them relieved and no longer contact me. How long is the process to relieve the GAL from a new rep i.e a lawyer?

Dear New York Tenant: Your attorney should answer your question. You may already know you are free to hire an attorney, so let your attorney deal with the judge and GAL.

If you hire a lawyer, that lawyer can petition the court to have the guardian ad litem relieved. Whether or not that motion is successful depends on the particular facts of your case. It can take several weeks, even months, for a motion of this type too be submitted, argued and decided.
