This is a video game which many spent substantial amounts of money, buying items. The co. that owned the license for the game, revoked the license and acquired the accts from the co. running the game. During the transfer of accts., many were stolen, due to neglectful coding. They also refused to recover these accts. This co. has an office in the US and we have the names of those responsible for the defect.

This is a very complicated case. There will be the need for a great deal of discovery. But it could turn out that you do have a case. You need an attorney well versed in contracts and in Internet law. You will most definitely need an attorney.

Is it possible? Yes. You likely will not win, but it's possible. There's always more to these stories than meets the eye whenever it is a drama about a free to play/microtransaction game with money spent on virtual goods, and then someone gets "hacked" or things get "stolen" or someone gets "banned for no reason". It's been my experience that it's highly unlikely to recover anything. Best of luck anyway.
