Based upon the information that you have provided, yur only option is to seek court intervention in removing the tenant. The police will not remove the tenant especially considering that payments have been made tfor rent. Assuming that your 30 day notice was effective to terminate the tenancy, you can move forward with an unlawful detainer action once the 30 day notice expires.

A "lodger " is a narrowly defined category of renter and it will be extremely difficult to argue that is your scenario when you have collected 4 months rent. You also have a further problem insofar as you appear to be renting a "room" in your house which means you are running afoul of California Law and LA rent control, which applies sin Northridge. I recommend hiring landlord counsel to walk you through your options. If your tenant begins to assert their rights in your potentially unlawful unit, things can get worse quickly. Good luck, it sounds like you tried to help someone out by renting a room and are now in a legal bind.
