Can I sue My Ex-girlfriend for slander or defamation of character?

Lawsuits And Disputes 3 views 1 answers
One night while I was bringing my daughter to her mother, she called me not to come yet, but I was already on my way... When I got there, someone broke her living room's window with a rock. Two weeks later I was sleeping getting ready to go to work my overnight shift, she called me to tell me, she had a drive by shooting, I went over and took them to a hotel. I have learned by different people she has accused me of orchestrating the shooting and the rock throwing. Last night in a text message, she clearly let me know I keyed her car, and shoot on her house. I am 43 years old, I have never hold a gun in my hands, never have a fist fight with anyone and any argument I walk away, can I sue that lady for defamation of character or slander? I am not a criminal and I do everything I can to stay

Defamation requires three elements: 1) a false statement, 2) of fact, 3) about another person. If she accused you, falsely, of committing a crime that very well could support a defamation claim. However, as a practical matter, what do you expect to get out of it? There are likely better ways to resolve this dispute than a defamation claim.
