Federal convictions are not currently expungeable, notwithstanding whether it is for a felony or a misdemeanor. There is a bill pending committee in the Senate sponsored by Cory Booker and Rand Paul. Keep track of that. It may solve your problem.

There is no way to expunge a federal conviction or reduce it to a misdemeanor. The only avenue for relief for a federal conviction is to seek a pardon from the president. This is almost impossible to accomplish and is typically reserved for political heavy hitters. In addition, even if you got a pardon, the conviction would still show up in searches although it would say that you were pardoned. Unfortunately, you will have to try to explain the circumstances that led to your conviction and explain that you have changed since then. Hopefully, someone will give you a second chance. There is no way to keep a prospective employer from finding it.
