I got a traffic ticket but my last name was completely misspelled, not even my name at all. Does this affect my responsibility?

Traffic ticket was for making a right turn during hours when one was not allowed. My last name is "Burns" and the officer wrote it correctly on the citation, but the typed ticket I got in the mail and the online record of the ticket both say "Evans." That seems like a pretty big error to make, so I'm just wondering if it affects my responsibility for this ticket at all. Or if I should just shut up and pay it already.

It won't affect your responsibility for the ticket. You should definitely still show because otherwise a warrant could be issued for you. Since the name on the citation is correct, its likely to be deemed a correctable error. You could always make the argument and see how the judge rules, but I think it won't matter. Good luck.

The responsibility is still yours regarding the matter because the police officer also included your driver's license number on the citation, which will reference with the DMV in California. I would suggest you talk to the prosecutor at your arraignment and see if you can work out a resolution that avoids additional points being placed in your driving history. Only then, if you are not satisfied, should you ask for a reset and consult with an attorney. Good luck.

Does this affect your responsibility? No. If the offocer is able to indentify you as the driver you're done. Opt for traffic school if eligible.
