Can i sue my school for emotional distress and stealing?

So I left my purse outside of my classroom by mistake, for only a couple minutes. I went into the classroom quickly to discuss with a teacher, and when I returned to the hallway, my purse was completely missing. There was a secuirity camera right in fornt of the room. I tried to retrive it but the school showed no effort in helping. My purse was returned the following week with most of my belongings unscathed, except for my wallet. It was empty. I brought it up to the principal, but he strongly dislikes me and me only. He takes away my privilages for no good reason, just because of a past reputation with him. I asked him to find the reel of the footage from in front of that room, and he refused because "Im a dirty lier". I was then kicked out of his office. Could the school get in trouble?

No. There is no affirmative requirement for anyone to stop you from being robbed. File a complaint with the police and ask them to get the footage, perhaps they will.

I would disagree with Mr. Popovich that there is no responsibility of a school district to provide security for students from criminal acts of other students. However, the answer as to your case may be that "it depends" on other facts not given by you. Nevertheless, your claim is one that is probably so small in amount that it is not worth pursuing unless it was one of a series of incidents that would amount to some form of harassment or discrimination. Your best bet is - as stated previously - to report the matter to the police and ask them to investigate.

The school is not going to "get in trouble". It has a responsibility to investigate allegations by students of incidents in school and a responsibility to report crimes to the police. In this case the school principal simply does not believe that a crime was committed. If you wish to pursue the issue then I suggest that you and your parents/guardian make a written request to the principal to investigate the theft of your wallet, put date, time and location in the written request and ask that school personnel review the camera footage on the date and time requested. You should also go to the police and file a complaint as Mr. Popovich recommended and request that they investigate and review the footage at the school.
