Hiring an attorney is your only option to avoid going to court yourself. You cannot pay the ticket off because it would suspend your license. You would also receive three license points and an increase in your insurance of approximately 45% for three years if you could pay it off. Hire an attorney; he or she will likely be able to get it reduced without you having to go to court.
72 in a 55 is a mandatory court appearance. You either have to appear in court or hire a lawyer to appear for you. I recommend that you hire a lawyer. Not only will your lawyer be able to go to court for you, he or she will also be able to negotiate with the ADA to get you charged reduced. 72 in a 55 will result in an automatic revocation of your driver's license if you are convicted of it. Not to mention your insurance will go up. A lawyer will be able to get it reduced. Depending on the DA's policies a lawyer might even be able to get it reduced to an Improper Equipment (which carries zero license or insurance points). Talk to a lawyer who practices in the county where you were charged.
Get an attorney to handle it for you. Your first court date is usually an administrative one. Don't pay it off or your license will be revoked for 30 days since it will be more than 15 miles over the speed limit.
