Is this business interference or anything?

Lawsuits And Disputes 3 views 3 answers
I own a coffee shop in my town which is gaining a lot of popularity. My neighbor is another vendor that has been complaining about numerous violations daily, however, there are no violations. Each time an inspector comes because of the said complaints, they find nothing. My neighbor has something to complain about daily and has been doing this for several weeks. Even the inspector said it was harassment now. She won't even let me park in my own parking lot because she says its not allowed. I've been a pushover, but now I think I'm being harassed. What can I do?

Have an attorney send a friendly letter - that usually slows then down.

I agree with my colleague that having an attorney send a "cease and desist" letter to stop the unwarranted complaints to the town and also the unlawful interference with use of your parking lot is the right first step.

I agree with both of my colleagues. A friendly approach is useful is certain circumstances, but here, you might need your lawyer to be more aggressive. A letter from an attorney not only sends a stern warning to your "neighbor" but it also creates a potentially important paper trail. Various types of interference with business is taken pretty seriously in Suffolk County. It's also a good idea to establish a relationship with a business attorney anyway, who you can call on for other business-related matter.
