My boyfriend bought me a $75000 car as a gift. I have a video he took of himself driving it to me and he is saying "My Name, I'm driving your new car". Then I have another video that I took on my phone of him giving me the keys to my new car. On the video I say "Boo, you bought me a car!" and he says "I know" Now we have broken up and he is trying to take the car. The title is in his name and he traded in one of his cars for the car he bought me. Do I have a leg to stand on in the courtroom? He turned over my keys and car to my father, after he cleaned and took all of the stuff out of my car, my father sold his own car and started driving mine because my boyfriend GAVE me a car. Now we have broken up. He is wanting to come get the car. I have no other car and am pregnant with his child.

I would like to tell you differently, and perhaps another attorney will have a more favorable view, but I think you may have a problem. In North Carolina, the "owner" of the vehicle is defined as the person who holds the title under NCGS 20-4.01. If the title had been put in your name and you were carrying the insurance on the car, your position would be much more favorable. Keeping a car that is worth 75,000 and in his name may result in much bigger legal problems for you. It may be helpful to retain an attorney and discuss the circumstances of this situation in more detail. Or, enjoy the time you got to use the car, return it to him, be thankful you did not marry him, and move on with your life.
