My husband's ex wife is forwarding my mail to her address. What do I do to get it back?

My husband's ex wife and I have the same name. She, however, has never lived at our current address. Recently she began having mail in my name forwarded to her PO Box. The Sheriff here told me there was nothing he could legally do because it is a federal crime. What do I do? She CAN NOT get away with this.

The rule/ policy with the Postal Service is that (presumably if you move) you get one shot at a mail forward and for 12 months only. If she has been out of that location, I'd talk to the forwarding unit with a couple things in mind. I assume your first names are "A" and your husband's last name is "B" for example. 1. This is "AB", I want all forwarding from this location to cease. 2. I am AB and I believe that someone is maliciously forwarding my mail. 3. I want a procedure/order that ANY forwarding from this address occur only after I am contacted by phone at this telephone number. -------------------------- If you want to take it higher, consider: (a) whether any federal laws were violated. (b) If she has been away from the house for a while, that is evidence of fraudulent intent. Find out the date the order was made. (c) get a copy of the forwarding order (you may need FOIA to request this by a letter) (d) Call the FBI or the Postal inspector and have an agent go and have a talk with her about items (a) - (c). (e) make contact with your congressman's and two U.S. Senator's staff. (does ex wife live in another congressional district? If yes, then good for you) (f) contact the Assistant U.S. Attorney General's office locally and meet him and see if he has any ideas on this problem. Even the threat of criminal intervention (if the law has been violated) can have a chilling effect. Remember, if you ramp it up on (a)-(f), do NOT be indignant, angry, or attidunally coarse. Get to know these bureaucrats. Make it EASY for them to help you. Leave your anger at home. If they sense catifght anger, they will just look away. The easiest thing for law enforcement to do is say "that's a civil matter" and then wash their hands of it. Don't give them an excuse to do this. Be nice and sympathetic. Once you have reached out to postal inspector, fbi, US Atty, congressional staff, U.S. Senate Staff you will get feedback on the progress they are making. If its orchestrated well, it may prevent a lot of parallel problems. Good Luck with this... Please remember to designate your question's BEST ANSWER. Contact the postmaster, and if you don't receive immediate relief, contact the US Postal Inspection Service. Joshua Sabert Lowther, Esq. [email protected] http://www.NationalFederalDefense.com 866.380.1782

You need to contact the Post Office immediately and speak with the local manager of your facility. Put your complaint in writing and you will have to fill out some forms. Keep all copies. Don;t worry about a lawyer unless it continues or there are damages due to fraud or theft. Speaking of which, watch your credit and bills very careful. You can report any inconsistencies to the police if you suspect fraud.
