Can I request the items back or a refund for value of them??

I was arrested at Walmart after being accused of stealing, with a buggy full of items, 200 + dollars worth and personal belongings (sweater, leather portfolio, glasses, notes for school, bills/paperwork) I had to get my husband go to the store to get a refund on the items purchased however, my personal effects were not returned. Being that I have a trial date set, would it be okay to request the items back or a refund for the value? Obviously the notes and paperwork have no value but they were irreplaceable and caused issues for me.

If you are saying that personal effects were seized along with the contraband these will probably not be released to you until the case is over and maybe not then.

You are charged with a crime. Seek counsel. As for the items, they may be alleging these items to be evidence. Many more facts are needed

If you have not already hired an attorney, I would do so now. Your attorney may be able to request your personal documents as part of the case assessment. However, some of the materials may be being held as evidence (to prove that you, in fact, had your personal items and stolen goods with you in one cart). Ultimately, they should be returned to you. However, it may be after the trial and/or hearing in your criminal case.
